Location:
Dandong is located alongside the Yalu River and in the southeast of Liaoning Peninsula, with the Yellow Sea in the South, and Dalian city in the southeast. It borders on Anshan in the west, Benxi in the north, and the Jilin Province in the northeast. She faces the city of Sinuiju of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea across the Yalu River. With the land area of 14, 950 square kilometers, the total population of Dandong is 2.4 million, including 0.7 million of which are urban people. Dandong is the biggest Border City in China.
Dandong is advantageous in geographic location for it is along Yalu River, along Yellow Sea and the border. She sits on the central belt of Northeast Asia, with 210km long borderline to the Korea Peninsula. The Dandong Railway, 220km from Pyongyang, 420km from Seoul, is the major land port connecting the Europe-Asia continent with Korea Peninsula, which is an important part of the Europe-Asia Railway system, connecting with the Japan, Seoul, Pyongyang, Beijing and Moscow.

Climate:
Dandong enjoys a moderate climate. It is picturesque in scenery with so many historical sites and border sightseeing. It is indeed a good place for vacation, retreat and tourism. Along the Dandong boundary, there are two national-class tourist resorts: Yalu River and the famous Phoenix Mountain, and four provincial-class tourist resorts: the Qingshan Gully, Dagu Mountain, Wulong Mountain and Tianqiao Guooy. The tourism in Dandong has become a newly developed industry.

Environment:
Dandong City, with advanced means of transport, has formed a comprehensive three -dimensional transportation network interconnected by railway, highway, air and sea transportation.
Dandong has an ideal economic environment. Donggang and Fengcheng both under the jurisdiction of Dandong city were officially approved by the State Council to be coastal economic opening-up area in 1998.And in 1992,Dandong was authorized by the State Council to establish a Border Economic Cooperation Zone. Here in Dandong, both the policies of coastal economic opening up zone and preferential treatment for border economic cooperation zone can be privileged.

Industry:
The industries in Dandong have solid foundations of economy and technology. It formed an industry economy system backboned by light industry, textile, machinery, and electronics. The main products are sold across china, such as chemical fiber, bus, borax products such as wristwatch, silk, machine- manufactured paper, tooth- paste, electronic parts and components, equipment and meter, medicine, etc are for sale in nationwide. Among them, the bus and wristwatch is a production base in China, and the only productive base of tussah silk. It also enjoys long history in paper making industry. Now the paper-producing capacity has reached 200,000tons per year, Newly established industries have also taken some shape. Among them, the color monitor and automobile audio products has been developing rapidly.

Natural Resources
Dandong has abundant natural resources, so is a perfect place to invest in and to exploit. The amount of the wood reserves ranks first in Liaoning Province. There’re over 50 kinds of underground mineral resources. So far, 31 kinds of them have been exploited. Dandong is plentiful in wild vegetables and fruits, and the local special products, especially the tussah, the tobacco, the ginseng, the chestnut, the strawberry and so on, Dandong’s pillar ginseng is boasted as “Crown of Garden Ginseng”. The area of the sea beach and the fresh water is quite wide. Dandong’s waters teem with prawn, and various shellfish and fish. The green marbles in Dandong is praised as “Crown of Marbles” by the Southeast Asian countries. The water resource of the city is quite rich endowed by nature. The average water possession of a person is 1.5 times as much as the average in China. The quality of the water is quite good and every biochemistry index is better than that of the international level. Dandong has a lot of geothermal resources, more than ten places of which are worth developing. The hot spring natatoriums, the hot spring hydrotherapy places, the hot spring recuperates and the hot spring baths have become a dominant feature of Dandong.
Tourism
The Big Deer Island: It is surrounded with seas. It is rich in prawn, swimming crab, conch, motley clam, clam and various fishes. It is famous for fresh and live marine products, which is praised by gastronomes. There are many natural and human scenery spots such as, the Erlang Stone, the Geba Jujube Tree, the Dripping Water, the Tiger Cave, the Camel Peak, Deng Shi-chang’s grave and his statue, Mao Wen-long’s Monument, the Temple dedicated to the worship of a marine goddess, the British guidance lighthouse and the Denmark Church. The Yalu River Scenic Spot:
The Yalu River Scenic Spot lies in Dandong area at the middle and lower reaches of the Yalu River that starts from the mouth of the Hun River on the east and flows into the Big East Port on the west. The Yalu River’s overall length is 210 kilometers and its total area is 824.2 square kilometers (including the water area that belongs to Korea). The area of the protection zone is 200 square kilometers.
The Yalu River Scenic Spot is located geographically in an advantageous position. It is warm in winter and cool in summer. There are clear waters and green hills. At the Yalu River Scenic Spot, people can generally survey the scene of both China and Korea, which makes the spot unique.

The Yalu River Scenic Spot lies at the middle and lower reaches of the Yalu River and faces Bitong, Qingshui, Yizhou and Sinuiju City of Korea across the River. The meander and the slowness of the River, the jagged cliff on both banks and the luxuriant woods, form a bright and colorful natural landscape. The ruins of the ancient castles, of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall and of the modern war; the modern bridges; and the water conservancy project compose a rich human landscape.
