Basic Information
Benxi is located at the Southeast of Liaoning Province, covering a total
area of 8348 km2, with a population of 1.56 million. Green mountains rise
straight up and revolve round the city. Clear Taizi River transverses the
city. Row upon row of buildings line around high hills and low valleys.
Streets crisscross among hills. The city is surrounded with mountains and
hills. She is a mountain city with wonderful scene in the Liaodong Peninsula.
Benxi was famous for its abounding in iron, steel and coal production in
the history. She is an important raw material industrial base of the state
and one of 17 Comparatively Large City of the whole country
Natural Resources
Benxi is endowed by rich natural resources, she is a perfect land for in
vestment. Total area of forest in Benxi reaches 8760,000 mu, rate of tree
coverage is 63.8%. She is the important base of lumber production in the
east area of Liaoning. Mineral resources amount to100 kinds, such as iron,
copper, lead, zinc, aluminum, gyp and marble etc. Iron ore reserve is especially
rich, it has been ascertained to be 2.3 billion tons. The iron ore has the
characteristics of easy selection and very low content of harmful impurity.
It`s one of the special resources of iron ore in the country.
Water resource is adequate, annual rain wash flow is 4.8 billion m3, rivers
crisscross the city, water volume is sufficient, hydro-power stations
can be built at more than 70 places. At present, there are two reservoirs,
both capacity exceed 2 billion m3. Wild famous special products include
ginseng, pilose antler, root of Chinese wild ginger, wilsonii, fruit of
Chinese magnoliavine, etc. Chinese medicinal herbs exceed 1100 kinds,
Chinese chestnut, may bloom, mountain edible wild herbs are exported to
the world.
Tourism
Benxi is famous for “Paradise in Liaoning” in the world. There
exists “Benxi Water Cave”, which is called “Wonder of
the World” by Chinese and foreign tourists; ruins of ancient human
being at "Miaohou" mountain 300,000 years ago;“Jiuding
Tiecha” Mountain which is the initiative base of Taoism in the Northeast
of China; watering place developed by the first emperor, Nuer Hachi in
Qing Dynasty; “uanmen Mountain”, which is praised as “Northern
Small Yellow Mountain” by painting field; a marvelous geothermal
anomaly zone, which is called “Wonder of Geology” by scientific
field, where it is warm in winter and cool in summer, as well as many
natural protection areas and forest parks. All of these places form an
integral natural and human landscape consisting of mountains, water, forest
springs and caves. Benxi is an extremely marvelous land.
Benxi water cave national park: located in Benxi of Liaoning Province,
covering an area of 44.72 square kilometers, is composed of six scenic
spots, i.e., the Water Cave, the Spa Temple, the Tanggou Valley, Mount
Guanmen, Mount Tiecha and Mount Miaohou, distributed in a belt along the
Taizi River. With the Benxi Water Cave as the main body, the park integrates
as a whole mountain, waters, caves, springs, lakes and anthropological
ruins. The Benxi Water Cave, a large scale aqueous karst cave formed millions
of years ago, is deep and broad with an 3000 meters underground river
running ceaselessly throughout the year. The water is so clear that one
can see the riverbed. The well developed stalactites on the roof and walls
take on various shapes and forms. Sightseeing by boat makes one indulge
in reverie and forget to leave. The spring water at the Spa Temple scenic
spot, 44 degrees centigrade with the flow rate of 400 tons per day, is
of great medical value. The historic site at Mount Miaohou with cave ruins
of the palaeolithic age in northeastern China is highly valued in the
study of anthropological distribution in eastern Liaoning and ancient
geography.
Benxi Water Cave: Benxi Water Cave was formed some 4 to 5 millions years
ago when the earth's crust changed it position. Located within Benxi County
and 35 kilometers from the City, the cave's entrance is on the shore of
Taizi River. Backing the hill and bordering the river, this cave is 7
meters high and 25 meters wide in the shape of a crescent. On the cliff
above the cave are four Chinese characters "Benxi Cave", the
personal calligraphy of senior Chinese revolutionary leaders, Bo Yibo.
Upon entering, there is a 20-meter wide, 50-meter long "guest parlor".
There, we find ruins of our ancestors some 3000 years ago. To the right
of the parlor is a dry cave 300 meters long which has an uneven floor
and crooked walls. In front of the parlor there is a pier leading to the
water cave. With a water surface of over 1000 square meters, it allows
more than 40 boats to berth. The water in the cave is deep and broad,
with a stretch of 2300 meters and an area of 36000
square meters . The volume of the cave is over 400000 cubic meters, and
the tallest point is 38 meters, widest 50 meters and longest 80 meters.
The daily volume of flow is 20000 tons, and the highest depth is 7 meters,
yet the bottom is clearly visible. Along the banks are stalactites and
stalagmites in all shapes and forms. There are more than 60 scenes worth
capturing. Boating in the cave is like entering a fairyland.
